Alkagesta has announced the creation of a new biofuels trading desk in Geneva, according to LFM La Radio. This initiative is intended to enhance the company's European footprint and its commitment to the worldwide energy transition.

The move highlights Alkagesta's ambition to contribute to the expanding market for sustainable fuels. LFM La Radio reported that Geneva is a recognised international hub for commodity trading, which Alkagesta plans to leverage.

Europe is transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable and low-carbon alternatives. LFM La Radio cited Grand View Research, stating the European biofuels market is projected to reach nearly $59 billion by 2030, with an 11% average annual growth rate.

Within this market, the European biodiesel segment was valued at $19.5 billion in 2024 and is expected to exceed $32 billion by 2033, as reported by LFM La Radio, referencing IMARC Group. Globally, the biofuels sector was approximately $99.5 billion in 2023 and is forecast to surpass $200 billion by 2030.

Alkagesta's CEO, Orkhan Rustamov, stated the company aims to play a constructive role in the shift towards cleaner fuels. The new desk will collaborate with partners in Geneva's trading ecosystem to promote responsible and sustainable growth, LFM La Radio reported.

The Geneva biofuels desk will coordinate closely with Alkagesta's existing operations, including sourcing, storage, and compliance, adhering to European Union standards. It will also utilise the company's international banking relationships and established risk management practices.

Since its inception in 2018, Alkagesta has formed partnerships with 28 international banks, expanded into 42 countries, and facilitated over 7 million metric tonnes of commodity trade annually. The company also manages a logistics network with access to more than 700,000 cubic metres of storage capacity across Europe and Asia.

Alkagesta has built a strong reputation through its rigorous compliance procedures, disciplined risk management, and robust governance framework, earning trust from financial institutions, regulators, and strategic partners globally, LFM La Radio concluded.
