Fintech Singapore reported that Alkagesta, a global commodity trading house based in Malta, is establishing an operations hub in Singapore. This move signifies a new chapter in the company's international journey, leveraging Singapore's role as a critical artery for global commerce.
The publication noted Singapore's strategic location and its significant role in international trade, with nearly 20% of the world's container traffic passing through its ports. Singapore is also a major hub for oil, commodities, and finance, offering both scale and credibility for firms like Alkagesta.
Orkhan Rustamov, Alkagesta's CEO, stated that Singapore is where Asian markets converge with global capital. He explained that opening a hub there creates a strategic bridge between Europe and Asia, ensuring compliant fuel flows and contributing to a sustainable global trading ecosystem.
Pierre Gay, a Member of the Board at Alkagesta, added that Singapore provides an ideal environment for disciplined commodity trading, where governance, risk management, and trade finance converge. He views this expansion as a commitment to operating with integrity and precision in a trusted market.
Alkagesta, founded in Malta in 2018, gained recognition for transforming Malta into a Mediterranean commodity hub. The company built a reputation for structuring complex transactions with 28 international banks, secured by letters of credit, insurance, and strict compliance processes.
The firm's uncompromising stance on compliance and sanctions, including robust KYC/AML procedures and zero tolerance for breaches, has earned the trust of regulators and financial institutions. This approach established Alkagesta as a role model in responsible trading.
The synergy between Alkagesta's operations in Malta and its strategic move to Singapore is clear. The Maltese model of combining financial expertise with rigorous compliance as a trusted gateway for global trade is now being applied in the Asian marketplace, according to Fintech Singapore.
